Kachemak Bay / Kenai Fjords Tour by Air (1 hour tour, headset provided):

Experience the wonder and beauty of Homer, Kachemak Bay, the Harding Icefield and Kenai Fjords National Park by airplane. Fly with us to the top of the Harding Icefield, the largest ice field in North America. The Harding Ice field contains over 700 square miles of ice and is located on the tops of the Southern Kenai Mountains just a short flight northeast of Homer. The icefield is over a mile thick at its deepest point with higher mountain peaks all around it, and more than 30 named glaciers and many more unnamed glaciers descending from it in all directions. The harding icefield is in the Kenai Fjords National Park, which was created in 1980 and contains 9,187 square miles. Enroute to the icefield we'll fly you through the Kachemak Bay State Park.

Kachemak Bay State Park, created in 1970, is Alaska’s first state park, and only wilderness park. It contains roughly 625 square miles of mountains, glaciers, forests and ocean. The bay’s twisted rock formations are evidence of the movement of the earth’s crust. Highlighted by constantly changing weather patterns, the park’s outstanding scenery is a backdrop of exceptional beauty. There is no road access to the park.

The best part of the tour is the perspective of the Southern Peninsula you will see from the comfort of the plane. Blue glaciers, blue water, jagged peaks, fjords, high mountain lakes, bays and inlets of Kachemak Bay and the Gulf of Alaska are all around us. On clear days we can see Kodiak Island to the South, Denali to the North, and well into Katmai and Lake Clark National Parks to the west. Enroute we often see eagles and other birds, mountain goats along high rocky ridges, black bear grazing along the alpine tundra, sea otters frolicking in the Kachemak Bay, seals lazily lying on the flats at the head of the Kachemak Bay and sometimes moose.

Grant Aviation operates out of the Homer, Alaska airport terminal. No advance reservations are required. Headsets are provided for each passenger. You will fly in either our 9 passenger, twin engine Piper Chieftan or our 6 passenger Cessna 207.
